EXPLORING SURIGAO DEL SUR, #thexuixuiWay Part 2 of 2 Day 2 and 3

EXPLORING SURIGAO DEL SUR,
#thexuixuiWay

PART 2- THE TINUY-AN FALLS AND ITS SIDE TRIPS

As a recap, we spent our day 1 travelling from Cagayan De Oro City to Hinatuan to Enchanted River, Island Hopping at Pangasinan Island and staying a night at the most unique lodge I have ever been to, C-Fish Cage and Sand Bars Resort. (You can view my blog by simply clicking the hyperlinked words above.)

Now, it’s our second day at Surigao Del Sur and our next Destination is the Tinuy-an Falls of Bislig City. We departed C-Fish Cage and Sand Bars Resort around 7am and went back to enchanted river where our van and driver waited for us. On that day, we paid him 2,500 to take us from Enchanted river to Tinuy-an Falls and finally back to Poblacion, Hinatuan.
The unfinished I LOVE BISLIG, at Bislig City Baywalk.
It took us 2 hours to reach Tinuy-an Falls from Enchanted River. But before reaching it, we stopped at Bislig City Baywalk first and took photos of course.

If you have plenty of time you can also ask the driver to visit the International Doll House before or the after going to Tinuy-an. And if you still not too tired of travelling, it is advisable for you to look around the road while at the van… just sit, relax and enjoy the beauty of nature.

THE TINUY-AN WATERFALLS

Tinuy-an Falls of Bislig City is a majestic 3-tiered waterfall and often referred to as the "Niagara of the Philippines" simply because of its wide water curtain and the widest in the country, measuring 95 meters wide and standing 55 meters high.

The Tinuy-An WaterFalls of Bislig City
By the way, it was way more fun and adventurous reaching the top of the last layer of this 3-tiered waterfall than by just swimming at the bottom of it. #thexuixuiWay

At the Top of Tinuy-an Falls
The entrance fee for this tourist site is 30 pesos and if you want to dine, you can order a meal at any mini mart / stores near the entrance. For picnic atmosphere, you can rent 1 table and 4 chairs for 100 pesos.

One good thing of this waterfall is that, the stones at the bottom of it where you can go swimming are not slippery so it’s not that risky. The water is crystal clear, cold and fast  flowing and so refreshing. Lastly, the curtain of the waterfall is the widest in the country and it’s very stunning.

At the Top of  the last layer of Tinuy-an Falls,
55- meters high

If you want to go to the top of the last layer of this waterfall, there are no entrance fees but there are volunteered tour guides. What you need to do is to donate them any monetary amount you feel. The stairs going to the top is wet, so you must be careful stepping up and down to it.

55- meters high
On the other hand, the stones at the top of the waterfall are not slippery but still you must be too careful because we cannot predict what might happen next. Remember, you're at the top of a 55m high waterfall. J

TINUY-AN FALLS OF BISLIG CITY,
SURIGAO DEL SUR
Actually, there is still one more top tourist attraction in Surigao del sur – the Britania Group of Islands (especially the Naked Island and the island beside it) but because we don’t have enough time to travel for more than 3-4 hours one way, we decided not to continue and went back to Poblacion, Hinatuan after our great experience in Tinuy-an Falls.
The danger sign in the photo is the
top of the last layer of the waterfall
Poblacion, Hinutuan is a very simple place with simple living. Most of the people were fishermen and small businessmen. In that place, I have the opportunity to mingle with the locals and talked to them while we were playing Billiard.

This is an example of an estuary located in Sto. Nino (Pob.) - Zone 2 Hinatuan, Surigao Del Sur. It is a body of water formed where freshwater from rivers and streams flows into the ocean, mixing with the seawater. #BrackishWater Staying a night near this place, #thexuixuiWay

Their local dialect is “Kamayo” but of course they can still understand and speak Tagalog, Bisaya and English. Kamayo is a native language spoken and understood mostly from Lianga to Lingig in Surigao del Sur. Dialect variations are caused by mixed dialect communications between the Manobo and immigrants now living in the area. The Visayan Spoken Dialect has a distinct version spoken in Mangagoy, Pob.

Dinner at our Friend's house
at Poblacion, Hinatuan
After a bountiful dinner, we had a small gathering, little talking, and sharing insights about our adventure in Surigao Sur with little drink to heat it up! Then we slept around 11pm, departed the house around 6am on the next day and then walked going to the bus terminal where we waited for the bus. Again, there were no air-conditioned buses traveling Hinatuan to Butuan City… so took the regular non-air-conditioned bus and took us 4 to 5 hours to reach Butuan City. This is because there were so many bus stops along the way, like we stopped every 1 hour travel on a bus terminal for 15 minutes. It was so tiring but never mind, I was contented with my experience naman.

After reaching Butuan City Bus Terminal we transferred to another bus bounc to Cagayan de oro and this time, it is now a relaxing air-conditioned bus. It took 4-5 hours again to reach the city.

Although we missed to visit Britania Islands, still our Surigao Del Sur adventure was very successful and for me, it was one of the most memorable experience I ever had in my life especially we stayed at C-Fish Cage and Sand Bars where I felt like I was isolated with the world for one night because the resort has no mobile signal, it was in the middle of the sea and facing the Pacific ocean.

Thank you, Surigao Del Sur! ‘til we meet again…

Exploring Gingoog City: Mt. Lumot, Tiklas Falls and Jinland Swimming Pool

Exploring Gingoog City: Mt. Lumot, Tiklas Falls and Jinland Swimming Pool

Gingoog City is the oldest city in Misamis Oriental and considered as the city of Good Luck. It is about 3.5 to 4 hours public air-conditioned bus ride away from Cagayan De Oro City (CDO City) and about 1.5 to 2 hours ride from Butuan City.

At Jinland Swimming Pool,
Gingoog City
It was last December 22, 2014 when I decided to explore this city with the help of my friends who used to work in Cagayan De Oro but originally from Gingoog. We departed Agora Bus Terminal, CDO City around 12:30am of December 23, 2014 and reached Gingoog around 4:30am. The fare is 230 for regular and 170 for students (S.P). I was a little bit shocked because during that time we reached the city, it is so quiet and even the national highway.
Gingoog City
From the national highway, we walked about a kilometer to reach the so called “Pantalan” or simply their “Boulevard”. There, we waited for the sun to rise and light the whole city!
                               #thexuixuiWay : with a new day,
comes a new strength and new thoughts!

Timelapse Photo (?)

Around 6:30am we strolled around the City Plaza with more selfie photos of course!

At Gingoog City Plaza
It was already 7am when I started to feel hungry but we cannot find any open local restaurant nearby so we just ate at Jollibee instead. Ha-Ha

First Destination: Cebu Pacific Flight 387 Shrine at Mt. Lumot

After making our tummy full, we started our real adventure and went to our first destination – the Cebu Pacific Flight 387 Shrine at Barangay Libertad which is at the foot of Mt. Lumot, a 25 km uphill from the city public market.

On our way to the Shrine
In the city public market we made a “pakyawan” deal with the Habal-Habal driver to take us all three to Mt. Lumot Flight 387 Shrine for 500 pesos back and forth. Unexpectedly, when we reach our destination, it was too far and the road was so rough that took us more than an hour just to reach it. So the driver ask to add 100 pesos from 500 peso deal (supposedly, that’s 200 pesos each one of us) and we can't argue with him actually because we find it legit or reasonable for him to ask additional payment, that’s why it was ok for us.

When we were at the shrine, manong driver waited us while we were busy enjoying the place and took groupie and selfie photos for about 30-minutes before going back to the city proper.

It was the deadliest Philippine aviation accident at that time!

Second Destination: Tiklas Falls

After having fun sightseeing and picture taking at Cebu Pacific Flight387 Shrine, we went back to the city proper and took our lunch and then made another “Pakyawan’ Deal with another “Habal-Habal” driver to take us to our next destination – the Tiklas Falls at barangay Lawit. We paid another 200 pesos for one way only to Tiklas falls but it is advisable to ask the driver to wait for you.
At the entrance of Tiklas Falls
Cool winds and beautiful nature welcomed us as we were approaching the site.

Bridge to the Swimming Pool and Viewing deck
Unluckily, I was so disappointed when we reached the waterfall because it was already abandoned and the place is a little creepy.

Swimming Pool at Tiklas Falls
There was no maintenance of the place but you will still pay for the entrance fee of 20 pesos for adult and 10 pesos for children below 12 years old. While the parking fee is 5 pesos for 2-wheels and 10 pesos for 4-wheels.

Selfie with Tiklas Falls
There are no sari-sari stores nearby so it is advisable that you should bring foods to eat just in case if you feel hungry while on the vicinity of the waterfall and the transportation is very limited so that’s why it is advisable that you ask the “habal-habal” driver to wait for you or ask him to pick you up at a specific time.
Tiklas Falls
I was even more disappointed knowing I will not be able to enjoy the water of the waterfall because it is no longer safe for swimming.  Even the swimming pool fronting the waterfall is unusable. We asked the person in charge at the main entrance why they abandoned the tourist site and they told us that the reason why they made such action is due to the very alarming cases of tourist who were drowned while swimming at the bottom of the waterfall.

Third Destination: Jinland Swimming Pool

Even though we were disappointed, we continued our journey and went to our last destination the Jinland Swimming Pool, about 20-minutes ride uphill from Tiklas Falls.
A very Huge Pot near the entrance of
Jinland Swimming Pool
Thank God, the place was not so awesome but it was okay and I enjoyed my experience out there especially their walls are painted with anime and cartoon characters.

The entrance fee is 20 pesos and you can also enjoy videoki at their gazebo for only 5 pesos per 2 songs.

They are also selling foods at their sari-sari store but they don't have restaurants where you can order meals.
Jinland Swimming Pool
After having fun at Jinland Swimming Pool we went back to the city proper, ate our dinner and travelled again back to Cagayan De Oro City.

It really felt so good after I have reached some of the most remote places of Gingoog City that day like the Cebu Pacific Flight 387 Shrine at Brgy. Lunotan which is about 25km uphill from the City Public Market and if we hike about 7hrs more we'll be able to reach the peak of Mt. Lumot, next is the "abandoned and most disappointing" Tiklas Falls which is about 9km away from the city proper and lastly the Jinland Cold Spring Resort at Brgy. Libertad which is another 2.5km away from Tiklas Falls! More to go! XD

EXPLORING SURIGAO DEL SUR, #thexuixuiWay Part 1 of 2

EXPLORING SURIGAO DEL SUR,
#thexuixuiWay

How we got there?

My unexpected journey to Surigao Del Sur is one of the most memorable adventures I ever had in my life. But before I’ll take you to the different tourist attractions of Surigao Del Sur I will tell yall first how we got there…

Tinuy-an Water Fall of Bislig City

Midnight of April 1, 2015 , Holy Wednesday, when we departed Agora Terminal in Cagayan De Oro City to Butuan City via public air-conditioned bus. It took us 5 hours to reach Butuan and the fare is 350 pesos for regular and 280 pesos for students (S.P) From Butuan we transferred to another public air-conditioned bus bound to Davao and travelled  another 2 hours for us to reach San Francisco, Agusan Del Sur. The fare is 180 for regular and 130 for students (S.P).

After a delicious breakfast at our friend’s house in San Franz, Agusan Del Sur, we went back to the terminal and rented (Pakyawan style) a van going to Poblacion, Hinatuan for 1,200 pesos (that’s 100 each since we are a group of 12). By the way, let me remind yall that there are no public air-conditioned buses from San Francisco, Agusan Del Sur to Hinatuan (vice-versa).

Actually, we went to Poblacion, Hinatuan for our free lunch since there is this very hospitable person we know who is currently living in Hinatuan, that’s why if you don’t know anyone living in Hinatuan to help you explore the place, it is advisable that in San Francisco you can already arrange a deal with the van owner/ driver to take yall directly to enchanted river or where you want to go first.

Hinatuan is not only blessed with awesome tourist attractions but also with the best sea foods and that’s why our friend who lives in Hinatuan served as crabs and shrimps for lunch like it’s just an ordinary “ulam” to them. XD

About 12 noon in Poblacion Hinatuan, we decided to rent another van to take us all to our first destination, the Enchanted River, but before going there, we already booked a very unique lodge near enchanted river called the C-Fish Cage and Sand Bars Resort and we were told by our Hinatuan Friend that for us to save money for foods, we can just buy first in the market and let the resort cooked it for us for dinner and breakfast on the next day and so we did it and fortunately it was successful.

We rented the van for 1,200 pesos on the first day to take us all from Poblacion Hinatuan to Enchanted River and 2,500 on the next day to take us from Enchanted River to Tinuy.an falls and finally back to Poblacion, hinatuan. Actually, that 3,700 pesos for the whole trip wasn’t so bad considering we are a group of 12 and the road going to those places are so bad.

Finally, we went to our first destination –
                       THE ENCHANTED            RIVER!

PART 1- THE ENCHANTED RIVER AND ITS SIDE TRIPS

THE ENCHANTED RIVER

Finally after more than 12 hours of travelling from Cagayan De Oro City, we reached our first destination the enchanted river and of course the rest of the story is so fuckin’ epic!

Groupie at the Entrance of Enchanted River
The Hinatuan Enchanted River is a lagoon-river on the island of Mindanao in the Philippines. It flows into the Philippine Sea and the Pacific Ocean at Barangay Talisay, Hinatuan, Surigao Del Sur. It is found between the boundaries of Barangays of Talisay and Cambatong. It earned the moniker "enchanted river" from the diplomat Modesto Farolan who described the river in his poem entitled "Rio Encantado". (Wikipedia)

At the Enchanted River
I was even more amazed after knowing that the origin of the water in the river and the depth of it is still unknown as of March 2015 exploration and no tourist has ever died in the place. That’s was very remarkable!
Groupie with the Enchanted
River at the Back
The entrance fee is 30 pesos and if you have private vehicles there are spacious areas where you can park them however it is about half to 1 km away from the river so what you need to do is to go near the entrance first then park.

There are also life jackets for rent for 15 pesos per hour if you want to go swimming but it’s not really required to have that. Lifeguards are also on duty and very visible within the swimming area.

To preserve the beauty of the place, no one is allowed to smoke and bring food in the river premises. There is a specific area near the main entrance where you can do your picnic thing. You can rent cottages, tables and chairs. Amount varies depending on your needs and budget.

What can I say about enchanted River?

It is absolutely the most enchanting river I have been to. The water of this river is so majestic and it leave me speechless or even breathless… it gives justice of being so called “enchanted” because I was.

What to do before swimming?
Take Selfie :P
The brackish water of this river is so refreshing and though the depth of it is a little bit scary, still it is very safe. I will surely be glad if I will have another chance to be in this place.

ENCHANTED RIVER SIDE TRIPS

Boating and Island Hopping after
enjoying the enchanted river
If you want side trips, you can try motor boating and island hopping for very affordable 150 pesos per hour with a maximum of 5 person per motor boat. The destination will be a drop by at C-Fish Cage and Sand bars resort, and island hopping in Pangasinan Island at Portlamon, facing directly the Pacific Ocean and more…

Along the way to C-Fish Cage
and Sand Bars Resort
Where to stay in Hinatuan?

Staying at C-FISH CAGE AND SAND BARS RESORT

Our Hinatuan Friend informed us that there is this very unique lodge near enchanted river, in the middle of the sea, facing the Pacific Ocean, which offers a cheap overnight stay for tourist. It was only about 15-minutes boat ride from enchanted river.
Docking at C-Fish Cage and
Sand Bars Resort during High Tide
It was actually a very small resort floating in the middle of the sea and perhaps needs much of improvement. The resort is purely made of dry woods, common nipa for roof and bamboo post but still very safe and they also have air conditioned rooms where you can relax over the night ranging from 600 to 1,200 pesos per room, depending on the accommodation you want.

For the food, they have the best and freshest sea foods including their one of a kind lobster for about 1,700 pesos each to 2,600 pesos per kilo (about 2 pieces of it). Also, if you want to save money, you can just buy goods first and let them cook it for you.

Game face on while on the boat goin to C-Fish Cage and Sand Bars Resort, Surigao Del sur... and while they were all busy taking their selfies too.. haha #IslandHopping #SurigaDelSur #CaragaRegion #summer2015 #thexuixuiWay
When we were still at the boat on our way to the resort, the driver said that during low tide about 10pm to 12 midnight, long sand bars appear near the resort where you can play basketball and volleyball. It was just so funny that by the time he told us about it we don’t believe him since it’s almost impossible to dry the place considering the depth of the seawater. But still we hope it’s really true so waited…
Groupie At Portlamon, Pangasinan Island
We continued our island hoping and reach Pangasinan Island in Portlamon and took some selfie and groupie photos … because we don’t have much time we were not able to enjoy so much the white sand beach of this island but still we were so happy to have stepped into it!
Selfie At Portlamon, Pangasinan Island
While waiting for sand bars to appear, we ate our dinner then we had fun talking with friends, chickas here and there and other little funny talks while sippin’ some ‘Empe Shots!” By the way, the resort does not have any Wi-fi and not even mobile signal for Globe users and very minimal for SMART so that means if you were there it feels like you’re isolating you self to the world for one night. You can’t even play Clash of Clans out there! Ha-Ha

It was almost 10pm and still no long sand bars have appeared in the sight, so my hope vanished and decided to sleep early for a new adventure next day…

However, about 10:30pm mysteriously the long sand bars appeared near the resort where my friends enjoyed it         while I was asleep… damn, they didn’t even tried to wake me up ha-ha… that shit Emperador Light knuckled me off before I even saw that effin’ sand bars! XD

C-Fish Cage and Sand Bars Resort
During Low Tide
Next day, I decided to wake up very early (5am) so I can be the first one to use their comfort rooms and do the shower thing. Thank God, I have managed it right and I was not so disappointed even though the water is not so fresh! : P

Sunrise at C-Fish Cage and Sand Bars Resort
Facing Pangasinan Island and the Pacific Ocean View
Early morning on the next day, we were greeted with this very beautiful sun rise at the dock of the fish cage… and fish of different sizes and colors appeared at the bottom of the resort (well, of course it’s floating in the middle of the sea Ha-ha)

Improper Summer Outfit at
C-Fish Cage and Sand Bars Resort

After a satisfying Filipino style breakfast composed of dried fish, egg etc. we then prepared to depart the place and headed back to Enchanted River where our van waited for us to take us to our next destination, TINUY-AN FALLS!
